Last Thursday we were delighted to host Ed Donaldson from Pegasus Bay at our Takapuna Wineclub. The fantastic response in attendance to this is testament to the stellar reputation that the Donaldson family have earned for their wines, and the long range we tasted on the night can only serve to have further enhanced it for those lucky enough to be here.
Starting with the deliciously different Sauvignon/Semillon we tasted through the liquid ambrosia that are the Pegasus Bay Rieslings and reds. We were fortunate enough as well to get to taste the yet to be released 2008 Pegasus Bay Riesling and Pinot Noir. With startling colour in the glass the Riesling showed just how well this variety does with age, while the Pinot had developed wonderful complexity and earthy characters to go with the still abundant fruit.
Defying expectations of South Island Bordeaux blends though the Pegasus Bay Merlot Cabernet proved to be a real crowd favourite, we sold out on the night and had customers returning the next day in their hunt for more!
