Now in bottle, it’s clear the quality of the 2015 vintage is extraordinary, this is one of the great Bordeaux vintages, one that will be talked about for many years. Those who purchased from us En Primeur will no doubt be very pleased with that decision.
Characteristically, the 2015 vintage for me is a year of balance. Natural to draw comparisons to recent great vintages, the 2009 and 2010. Other than all three being exceptional, that’s where the similarity stops. The 2009 vintage was opulent and very forward, charming wines, the 2010 was all about structure and acidity. The 2015 vintage has everything you want in top Bordeaux, with a wonderful freshness to the wines and ripeness that’s spot on. Another character I have loved from the 2015 wines since I tasted them En Primeur and through now to the wines in bottle is their ability to express terroir. In some ways, the two previous great vintages are more about those magnificent years than expressions of place, the vintage character so strong.
Acclaim for these wines has continued now they are in bottle with a unanimous (which is rare) praise for the 2015 vintage;
Antonio Galloni of Vinous noting: “the finest 2015s are wonderfully sensual, exotic wines that should drink well relatively early and also reward aging”.
James Suckling noting that: “this vintage is definitely a new benchmark for Bordeaux”. With fourteen 100 point wines from the 2015 vintage.
Neal Martin’s reference article on the Wine Advocate concludes; To sum it up, 2015 is a great Bordeaux vintage that is going to give a lot of pleasure. There are bargains to be found on the lower rungs of the hierarchy, lest we forget that Bordeaux remains one of the best value regions on the planet if you seek carefully at Cru Bourgeois level, or the satellite appellations of the Right Bank or the less glamorous appellations of Moulis and Listrac. My final word is this: go seek the 2015s, choose wisely and you will have no regrets.
