What a great tasting. Our Takapuna store manager Dylan put together an excellent line up of Rose champagne that were a delight to talk about. Not only were the champagnes excellent, they demonstrated all the different techniques winemakers use to craft different expressions of Rose champagne.
Whilst we tasted each individually, they were loosely divided into pairs, first up Ruinart Rose and Piper Heidsieck, this match highlighting the diversity exists in rose champagne. The next pair, two from the same part of Champagne, both Pinot Noir based, Moutard and Drappier. These two cuvee showed the exceptional value these houses offer and the gorgeous breadth combined with delicacy that Pinot Noir. Next up, we moved to two wines that were all about reserve wine, Charles Heidsieck Rose alongside Paul Bara Rose. Then onto a story about oak, with Bollinger’s Rose 2006 and Henri Giruad’s Rose.
A wonderful tasting to host the threw out the window the myth that rose champagne is sweet and frivolous, these wines anything but. It was also great to be at our Takapuna store, after all, that’s the store where I started with Glengarry at, all those years ago.
